Urban Tree Collective

Northern Red Oak

What is it:

The urban Tree Collective is group for people who care deeply for trees, foraging, food security, building community, and spreading knowledge.

Where is it:
The Urban Tree Collective is based in Somerville, MA, a city full of trees, many of these trees produce massive amounts of food every year.  The Urban Tree Collective’s mission is to put that bounty to good use.

Northern Red Oak Acorns Harvested

How to Get Involved:
If you want to learn how to identify trees, eat acorns, make cider from crab apples (and jelly, and vinegar!), “chocolate” from linden trees (and salad, and tea, and honey!), how to make oil from bitter nut hickory, elderberry flower cordial, and so much more.  Our city streets are planted with delicious food, just waiting for us to collect it.  All it takes is a little knowledge of when, where, and how.

The Urban Tree Collective combines the sharing of traditional wisdom, collaboration and experimentation, and community building to feed people, and to change the way we think about the living world around us.  We have events all year long, harvesting, processing, and sharing the results of our harvest.
