Our nursery believes in planting small.  We have 1 or 2 year old plants.  Planting small lets the roots become established faster, and most importantly keeps costs low to you.  Instead of paying $20 or more per plant, our wild flowers are only $5 each, and our trees and shrubs are only $10 each.

Most plants come in easy to plant propagation pots which make planting easy for you and protect the roots of the plants.  Simply dig a hole the same size as the pot, gently squeeze the propagation pot and press from the bottom, place the entire plug into the ground press gently and water it in…that’s it!

Wild flowers are drought resistant but will need some care while they are getting established, keep them watered for the first few weeks after planting and then you can more or less ignore them.

Most wild flowers are what are called “herbatious perenials.”  Which means that they are non-woody plants that die back to the root every year, and then come back from those roots to grow again the next year.  Be sure you mark where you have planted them so that you don’t accidentally “weed” them as they return each spring.   They are not hybrids, so you can save the seeds and propagate them to other places or grow more of your own.  If you leave the dead stalks each winter you will be providing valuable winter habitat for native bees and insects, they will also rot away to provide more nutrition for the soil.  Wild flowers do not need additional fertilizer, but if you provide a light top dressing of compost they will often grow larger and produce more blooms.
